Liebe an der Datenbank CARLA der HMT Interessierte,

das Jahr neigt sich langsam dem Ende zu und wir möchten die Gelegenheit nutzen, über einige Neuigkeiten in Bezug auf CARLA zu informieren.

Aktueller Bearbeitungsstand

Wie immer zunächst ein kleiner Zwischenstand zur Verzeichnung und Verknüpfung der Daten aus den Studienunterlagen in CARLA.

Mittlerweile sind 12096 der 12.776 Inskriptionsdatensätze der Studierenden bis einschließlich Jahrgang 1918 (95%) vollständig bearbeitet. Zeitlich bewegen uns im Immatrikulationsjahr 1914.

CARLA auf der Shortlist für den 3. NFDI4Culture Music Award

Der NFDI4Culture Music Award wird jährlich vom Konsortium NFDI4Culture (Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur für Kulturdaten) vergeben. Mit ihm werden „Projekte oder Unternehmungen ausgezeichnet [...], die im Bereich der Musik und der Musikwissenschaften in besonderer Weise zu den Zielen in den Aufgabenbereichen des Konsortiums beitragen.“ (Quelle)

Dieses Jahr hatten wir uns mit CARLA beworben und wurden mit zwei weiteren Projekten auf die Shortlist gesetzt. Diese finden Sie hier.

CARLA hat den Preis leider nicht gewonnen, aber NFDI4Culture hat uns Unterstützung bei der weiteren Arbeit an unserer Datenbank angeboten. Wir danken dem NFDI4Culture Konsortium für die Nominierung und gratulieren dem Gewinner des Music Awards Dennis Ried (Projekt "Baumann Digital").

Artikel über CARLA im neuen MT-Journal

Auch in unserem hochschuleigenen MT-Journal durften wir CARLA präsentieren. In der neusten Ausgabe der Zeitschrift, die gerade im Dezember frisch erschienen ist, finden Sie auf Seite 32-34 einen Artikel, in dem CARLA mit all ihren Funktionen vorgestellt wird.

Die 57. Ausgabe mit dem Artikel zu CARLA, sowie alle älteren Ausgaben des MT-Journals sind über Qucosa online verfügbar.

NEU: Link zu RISM

Wir freuen uns, dass wir die Liste der Verlinkungen zu weiterführenden Quellen um eine neue Ressource erweitern konnten. Nun können Sie auf CARLA auch Links zu mit den Personen in Verbindung stehenden Einträgen im internationalen Quellenlexikon der Musik RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales) finden. Dies ist durch die Verzeichnung der GND-ID in den beiden Datenbanken sowie einer entsprechenden Mapping-Datei von RISM möglich. Der Link erscheint nur, wenn die entsprechende GND-ID für die Person in RISM hinterlegt und die Person mit Katalogisaten in RISM verknüpft ist.

Kleiner Jahresrückblick 2024

Wir blicken mit CARLA auf ein erfolgreiches Jahre zurück!

Trotz der Übernahme weiterer Aufgaben konnte unsere Mitarbeiterin 2071 weitere Studierendendatensätze fertig bearbeiten (ca. 10 pro Tag), sowie 2336 Personen in der GND anlegen oder bearbeiten (ca. 12 pro Tag) und 155 neue Orte in der GND anlegen (ca. 1 pro Tag).

Zudem konnten wir CARLA mit unserer Benutzungs- und Rechercheplattform endlich für die Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung stellen und die Datenbank in verschiedenen Kontexten vorstellen, wie z.B. auf der IAML Deutschland Tagung. Die Folien zu dem Vortrag von der IAML Tagung sowie weitere Publikationen zum Projekt finden Sie auf der CARLA Seite unter „Veröffentlichungen“.

PS: Wie immer möchten wir Ihnen noch ein kleines Schmankerl aus unserer Datenbank präsentieren. Dieses Mal wird es entsprechend der Jahreszeit weihnachtlich.

Eyvind Alnæs studierte von 1892 bis Ostern 1894 am Leipziger Konservatorium und wurde anschließend Organist im norwegischen Drammen. Neben dieser Tätigkeit komponierte er auch, unter anderem zwei Sinfonien, Klavierwerke, Lieder und Chorwerke. Eine dieser Kompositionen ist seine Julemotett (Weihnachtsmotette) für Chor, Solo und Orgel. Eine Aufnahme dieses Werkes von dem norwegischen Knabenchor Sølvguttene können Sie auf YouTube finden.

Alnæs erhielt 1922 die Königliche Verdienstmedaille in Gold und zehn Jahre später den Königlich Norwegischer Orden des heiligen Olav vom Grad Ritter 1. Klasse. Er war Vater der Schriftstellerin und Widerstandskämpferin Lise Børsum (1908–1985) und Großvater des Schriftstellers Finn Alnæs (1932–1991).

Leider war das Weihnachtsfest für Alnæs und seine Familie nicht immer so fröhlich, wie man es sich erhofft. 1932 starb Eyvind Alnæs im Alter von 60 Jahren am 24. Dezember in Oslo.

Dear readers interested in the CARLA database of the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig,

as the year draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some CARLA news before the New Year.

Current state of completion

As always, here is a brief update on the indexing and linking of data from the study records in CARLA.

Currently 12096 of the 12,776 student records up to and including the year 1918 (95%) have been fully processed. In terms of time, we are in the inscription year 1914.

CARLA shortlisted for the 3rd NFDI4Culture Music Award

The NFDI4Culture Music Award is presented annually by the NFDI4Culture consortium (National Research Data Infrastructure for Cultural Data). It honours ‘projects or undertakings that make a special contribution to the goals of the consortium’s areas of activity in the field of music and musicology’ (source)

This year we applied with CARLA and were shortlisted with two other projects. You can find the shortlist here.

Unfortunately, CARLA did not win the prize, but NFDI4Culture offered us support for further work on our database. We would like to thank the NFDI4Culture consortium for the nomination and congratulate the winner of the Music Award Dennis Ried (project ‘Baumann Digital’).

Article about CARLA in the new MT-Journal

We were also able to present CARLA in our university’s own MT Journal. In the latest issue of the journal, which has just been published in December, you will find an article on pages 32-34 in which CARLA is presented with all its functions.

The 57th issue with the article on CARLA, as well as all earlier issues of the MT Journal are available online via Qucosa.

NEW: Link to RISM

We are pleased to announce that we have added a new resource to the list of links to additional resources. Now on CARLA you can also find links to entries related to the persons in the International Inventory of Musical Sources RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales). This is made possible by indexing the GND ID in both databases and a corresponding mapping file from RISM. The link only appears if the GND ID for the person is stored in RISM and the person is linked to catalogue records in RISM.

A brief review of the year 2024

We can look back on a successful year with CARLA!

Despite taking on additional tasks, our employee was able to complete 2071 more student records (approx. 10 per day), create or edit 2336 people in the GND (approx. 12 per day) and create 155 new locations in the GND (approx. 1 per day).

In addition, we were finally able to make CARLA available to the public with our user and research interface and present the database in various contexts, e.g. at the IAML Germany congress. The slides from the presentation at the IAML congress and other publications about the project can be found on the CARLA website under ‘Publications’.

PS: As always, we would like to present you with a little treat from our database. This time it will be Christmassy in keeping with the season.

Eyvind Alnæs studied at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1892 to Easter 1894 and then became an organist in Drammen, Norway. In addition to this work, he also composed, among other things, two symphonies, piano works, songs and choral works. One of these compositions is his Julemotett (Christmas motet) for choir, solo and organ. A recording of this work by the Norwegian boys’ choir Sølvguttene can be found on YouTube.

Alnæs was awarded the Royal Medal of Merit in Gold in 1922 and ten years later the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav of the Degree Knight 1st Class. He was the father of the writer and resistance fighter Lise Børsum (1908-1985) and grandfather of the writer Finn Alnæs (1932-1991).

Unfortunately, Christmas was not always as merry for Alnæs and his family as one might have hoped. In 1932, Eyvind Alnæs died in Oslo on 24 December at the age of 60.
